1 Johnson, Blanche Wynne Apples of Gold in Pictures of Silver
B.F. Johnson 1889 First Edition. Cloth Very Good Plus None Cloth 4to - over 9
Best copy listed on bookfinder when we searched. Full title is ". of Silver; Containing Full and Complete Suggestions for Spiritual and Material Prosperity/A Book for True Self-Development". Copyright page has two; one for 1894, a second for 1899, however a note explains that the first book published was in 1894, which is this copy. A guide to living a prosperous life within Christianity, a very early and impressive example of a Christian self help book. Profusely illustrated, with numerous plates. The book is tight and clean, with solid hinges, and little soiling, considering it's age. I would confidently grade it at Very Good Plus, with a little rubbing to the top and bottom of the spine and lightly rubbed corners. Ornate decorative cover and spine, with golden hanging apples, an arch and Jesus on high, standing atop a ladder. Interesting piece, and evidently quite rare. The ffep is missing a piece from the corner, but that is unobtrusive, and there are 4 pages which have a marking from something being placed between two of them, the markings are all smaller than the size of a dime.

2 Merton, Thomas The Seven Storey Mountain
Harcourt Brace and Company 1948 First Edition Second State. Cloth Good Plus Very Good Plus Cloth 8vo - 7
Stated first edition, apparently the second state. One of the initial run of 6,000, and one of even fewer that were bound in off-white cloth with black lettering on the spine. The book is NF+, save for some light water damage to the second half of the pages. There is some light discoloration to the inside of the rear cover and the rear boards as well. Rear cover is slightly bowed, and the rear of the dj is affected as well, though not significantly; there is a very small amount of discoloration, and some crinkling. No price on the jacket, which is also NF/NF+ save for the light water damage to the rear cover. Good chance to pick up a very rare book at a reduced price because of some minor cosmetic damage. Photos available upon request. Rear cover of the jacket shows photos of the monastery where Merton lived.
