Open afternoons Monday through Saturday (1:30-5 pm)
Thank you to the Oregonian for naming us their Favorite Bookstore in Portland on January 17th, 2016!
My Father recently fell and broke his kneecap which further limits his mobility so we are buying less frequently and more selectively today. At this point we are focusing on quality stock and rare or unusual items.
We also purchase ephemera, posters, rare periodicals, posters and sometimes sheet music.
If you are interested in selling books/other items, please call to schedule a time to bring them in. We also make house calls for estates under certain circumstances.
Specializing in fine rare books, we do buy items directly and also take exceptional books on consignment.
Our site lists over 7,000 books from our inventory, ranging in price from $10 to more than $5,000. Feel free to browse our inventory here or on ABEbooks:
Thank you very much for visiting our site. Established in 1980 by the present owner Jon Hagen, we are one of Portland's oldest bookstores and specialize in fine used, rare and antiquarian books including Pacific Northwest/Oregon History, the classics, modern first editions, fine illustrated editions and high quality books of all kinds.
We are centrally located at SE 14th and Division St. in SE Portland, Oregon and are less than 5 minutes from downtown via the Hawthorne or Ross Island Bridges open from 1-5 PM Monday through Saturday (closed Sunday)
Feel free to call the store at (503) 239-5222 to check in regarding our availability on any given day. Please call us to schedule an appointment if you have good books to sell. In certain cases we also make house calls for significant books and/or large estates.
We are one of the last bookstores in Portland which buys books and other collectible paper outright. We pay well for quality books and entire estates of high quality materials and can make house calls if we are interested in your materials. With 40 years combined years experience in the business we will be happy to discuss your books and we pride ourselves in dealing with customers fairly. We buy and sell a variety of rare and unique books, posters, vintage photographs, paper ephemera, programs, catalogues, magazines and related materials and are always interested in items which are out of the ordinary. Please contact us directly at (503) 239-5222
if you have any questions about our stock or materials you are interested in selling.
We also have a basement full of rare and collectible periodicals and have recently begun buying and selling decorative pieces as well as vintage photographs, thus we have a huge collection of decorative magazine covers from as far back as the turn of the 19th century, along with a solid collection of unique, one of a kind ephemera and paper items, many relating to Portland and the Pacific Northwest. Please contact us for more information about such things as none of the decorative pieces, photographs or magazines are listed on this site.
The store was opened in 1981 on Milwaukee Avenue in SE Portland, Oregon and has been in its present location for more than 25 years.
Located at 1401 SE Division St, we are easily located when approaching from any direction in the metro area. Division St. is located between Hawthorne and Powell Blvds. and 14th Avenue is close to the Columbia River and downtown Portland. Parking is not an issue in this neighborhood, and if need directions to the store from Google Maps, please click here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ct=reset
For new customers who would like to visit the store in person, our hours are afternoons 1-5pm Monday through Saturday. We are occasionally closed due to health complications or the like and hope that you will understand if you stop by when we are not able to open the store. We are clearly a family owned and run business and hope that you expect to encounter a little character when you visit us. If you're coming from across the city- or even from another city- please do give us a call at (503) 239-5222 to make sure we'll be there to help you. Thank you very much for visiting us online and we hope some day to see you in person.
